PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – The Pinellas County Tax Collector’s office is partnering with Family Support Services (FSS), a Largo-based nonprofit, to host a month-long holiday food and fundraising drive aimed at assisting Pinellas families who struggle to afford a Thanksgiving meal.

Starting October 1st and running through the 24th, employees and local citizens are invited to drop off non-perishable food items at any tax collector office during business hours. The initiative is a collaborative effort to ensure more families in the community can enjoy the holiday season.

“The holidays are a time to celebrate, spend time with loved ones, and enjoy great food,” said Tax Collector Adam Ross. “Unfortunately, there are those in our community without the means to celebrate, and we hope that our work with this food drive can change that.”

Supporting Child Welfare

Family Support Services is the leading child welfare agency for Pinellas and Pasco counties, dedicated to improving family situations, providing safe foster homes for abused or neglected children, and facilitating adoptions. The donations collected will directly benefit the families FSS serves.

In addition to collecting pantry staples, the Tax Collector’s team is also encouraging the public to make monetary donations via a QR code displayed at their offices. These funds will be used to purchase gift cards, offering local families the flexibility to buy their preferred main course, such as a turkey or ham, for the holiday meal.

A list of high-priority non-perishable items includes:

  • Canned cranberry sauce
  • Canned green beans
  • Canned chicken soup
  • Canned cream of mushroom soup
  • Instant mashed potatoes
  • Canned yams
  • Canned corn
  • Canned turkey gravy
  • Boxed stuffing mix
  • Boxed macaroni & cheese
  • Brownie, cake, or cookie mix

The drive offers a straightforward way for Pinellas residents to contribute to the well-being of vulnerable families ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. For more information about Family Support Services and their work, visit fssc6.org.
