PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – Drivers planning to cross the Courtney Campbell Causeway early next week need to find a new route.
All lanes of SR 60 will be completely blocked off starting at 10 p.m. on Monday, May 18, as crews move in to perform overhead bridge work. The closure is expected to last until 5 a.m. Tuesday morning, though, officials noted the schedule depends on the weather.
The shutdown is part of a larger project to build a pedestrian overpass in Pinellas County. To keep traffic moving around the construction zone, transportation officials have laid out several detours.
Those heading westbound from Tampa will be redirected to SR 580 (Hillsborough Avenue) and US 19 to get back onto SR 60 once they reach Pinellas. Alternatively, drivers can take the Howard Frankland Bridge south, get off at Ulmerton Road (Exit 31), and take US 19 north.

For travelers heading eastbound into Tampa, the detour requires taking the Bayside Bridge (CR 611) to Ulmerton Road, then heading east to catch the northbound I-275 entrance onto the Howard Frankland.
Message boards and warning signs will be posted along the roads to help navigate the detours. Officials are asking motorists to stay alert for construction crews and to use extra caution while driving through the active work zones.
