PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – Drivers traveling through Pinellas County next week can expect widespread traffic delays, as the Florida Department of Transportation District 7 has scheduled a series of lane closures spanning major highways and local roadways from July 26 through August 1, 2026.
Major interstate routes will experience both full overnight shutdowns and partial lane restrictions. On Interstate 275, the express lanes heading northbound between Gandy Boulevard and Roosevelt Boulevard will close completely for two hours starting at midnight on Monday, July 27.
Later in the week, southbound I-275 lanes from south of Exit 28 (Gandy Boulevard) to Exit 26 (54th Avenue North) will shut down from 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, until 6 a.m. Thursday, July 30.
Heavy overnight work is also slated for US Highway 19 across several segments. Nightly lane closures from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. will run Sunday, July 26, through Thursday, July 30, between Tampa Road and Tarpon Avenue.
Additional night closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. will take place on US 19 from Main Street (State Road 580) to Curlew Road (State Road 586), as well as along the stretch between 49th Street and Main Street during that same Sunday through Thursday timeframe.
Several long-term, 24-hour lane restrictions remain in effect across the county. Eastbound lanes on State Road 60 (Gulf to Bay Boulevard) from South Bayshore Boulevard to Dr. Kiran C. Patel Boulevard, as well as the 62nd Avenue South Bridge over Maximo Channel, will continue round-the-clock closures through summer 2026.
Bi-directional traffic over the Maximo Channel bridge is being managed by a temporary traffic signal. On Eastbound State Road 586 (Curlew Road) between McMullen Booth Road and Tampa Road, 24-hour closures will last through late 2026. Meanwhile, right-lane closures on 62nd Avenue North near the I-275 overpass are set to remain in place 24 hours a day through December 2026.
Daytime construction will affect daytime commuters on several state routes. State Road 682 (Pinellas Bayway) will see lane closures between Dolphin Cay Lane/Landings Drive and the Pinellas Bayway Toll Plaza from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday, July 27, through Friday, July 31. Similar daytime hours apply to State Road 687 (4th Street North) from Gandy Boulevard to I-275, as well as State Road 688 (Ulmerton Road) between 49th Street North and Egret Boulevard.
Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time or seek alternate routes when traveling through the affected zones during these scheduled construction periods.
