ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – St. Petersburg drivers who normally hop onto the interstate from Gandy Boulevard will need to rethink their route tomorrow night. Transportation officials have confirmed that the eastbound Gandy Boulevard (SR 694) entrance ramp leading to southbound I-275 is set to shut down starting at 11 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17.

The closure is expected to last until 5 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The temporary shutdown is a necessary step for the ongoing I-275 widening project. During these overnight hours, construction crews will be working to install temporary barrier walls along the corridor to protect workers and manage traffic flow for future phases of the expansion.

For those traveling through the area during the work window, a specific detour has been mapped out to minimize confusion. Drivers should stay on eastbound Gandy Boulevard past the usual entrance and take the exit for 94th Avenue N/16th Street N.

From there, motorists will need to turn left onto 94th Avenue N, passing under Gandy Boulevard, before taking another left at 16th Street N. This will lead drivers back onto westbound Gandy Boulevard, where they can eventually use the loop ramp to merge onto southbound I-275.

While the six-hour closure occurs during low-traffic hours to reduce the impact on the public, local authorities are encouraging commuters to leave a few minutes early or check their GPS apps for real-time updates. If the weather holds, the ramp should be fully reopened and ready for the Wednesday morning rush.
