PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – Commuters in Pinellas County should prepare for significant lane closures on major roadways this week as the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 7 schedules maintenance and construction projects from Sunday, November 23, through Tuesday, November 25, 2025.

While the Thanksgiving holiday itself (Thursday, November 27) appears to be spared, travelers should adjust their plans for the days leading up to it.

The majority of the work will take place during nighttime hours on Interstate 275 (I-275) and various stretches of U.S. 19 (US 19) and Alternate U.S. 19 (ALT US 19).

Several sections of the county’s major arteries will be affected:

  • I-175: Night lane closures from 16th Street S to 4th Street S are scheduled from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., Sunday through Tuesday nights.
  • I-275: Lane closures will occur from the end of the southbound express lanes to 38th Avenue North between 8:30 p.m. and 6 a.m., Sunday through Tuesday nights.
    • Ramp Operations: Travelers near I-275 exit and entrance ramps at 38th Avenue N, 54th Avenue N, and Gandy Boulevard (Exit 28) may experience periodic, very brief flagging operations between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday.

Pinellas County Night Work (8 p.m. to 6 a.m.)

Drivers on the following roads should expect nightly delays from Sunday, November 23, through Tuesday, November 25:

  • ALT US 19 (Tyrone Boulevard): From 5th Ave N to 38th Ave N.
  • US 19 (Clearwater Area): From SR 580 (Main Street) to SR 586 (Curlew Road).
  • US 19 (Clearwater/Largo Area): From Drew Street to Sunset Point Road.

Daytime and Long-Term Projects

Multiple state and alternate routes will see daytime closures (typically 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.) on Monday, November 24, and Tuesday, November 25.

  • ALT US 19: Daytime closures are scheduled for sections including Meres Boulevard to Tampa Road, E Curlew Place to St. Andrews Drive, and Pinellas Avenue at Anclote Road/Coquina Drive.
  • SR 580 (Main Street): East of Phillipe Parkway, with work from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • SR 686 (East Bay Drive): At Bedford Circle West, with closures from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • SR 694 (Gandy Boulevard): From west of 94th Ave N to Derby Lane, with work from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Additionally, two long-term projects continue to impact traffic:

  • SR 60 (Gulf to Bay Boulevard): Eastbound lane closures from S. Bayshore Boulevard to Dr Kiran C Patel Boulevard remain 24 hours per day through late 2025.
  • SR 586 (Curlew Road): The outside eastbound lane from McMullen Booth Road to Tampa Road will have 24-hour closures through late 2026.

FDOT advises all drivers to use caution in the work zones, be aware of construction vehicles, and allow extra travel time, especially during peak hours, before the holiday rush.
