PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – Drivers in Pinellas County are facing a gauntlet of orange cones and flashing lights as the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) kicks off an extensive series of roadworks starting March 22, 2026.
The District 7 schedule, which runs through March 28, hits nearly every major artery in the county, ranging from overnight maintenance to long-term bridge projects that will keep lanes restricted for months to come.
The heavy lifting starts Sunday night. Commuters using I-175 between 16th Street S and 4th Street S should prepare for night lane closures from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. through Thursday. Simultaneously, the Sunshine Skyway Bridge will see its own set of night closures, pushing traffic into tighter quarters from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly until Friday. Further north on I-275, the stretch from 38th Avenue North to Roosevelt Boulevard will also see lane reductions between 8:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.
US 19 will be a particular hotspot for nighttime delays. From Tampa Road to Oak Street, crews will be active from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., while the section from Main Street to Curlew Road will see closures starting at 8 p.m. through Thursday.

Alternative routes won’t offer much of an escape; ALT US 19 has three separate work zones. Flagging operations will be in effect from Meres Boulevard to Tampa Road at night, while daytime drivers between E Curlew Place and St. Andrews Drive will deal with lane shifts from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Saturday. Tyrone Boulevard is also on the list for night work starting Sunday.
For those hoping to avoid the “night shift,” several 24-hour restrictions remain in place. Eastbound Gulf to Bay Boulevard is restricted around-the-clock through the spring, and Curlew Road near McMullen Booth Road will keep its eastbound lanes closed 24 hours a day until late 2026.
Meanwhile, the 62nd Avenue S Bridge over Maximo Channel continues its long-term overhaul through the summer, utilizing a temporary traffic signal to funnel bi-directional traffic over the remaining bridge space.
Other notable disruptions include daytime closures on Gandy Boulevard, Ulmerton Road, and 4th Street North, where crews will be active from approximately 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. throughout the week. East Bay Drive will see its lanes tighten up at night between US 19 and Belcher Road.
While FDOT hasn’t issued specific detour instructions for every site, they urge motorists to stay alert and expect delays as these maintenance and construction efforts move forward simultaneously across the county.
