Pinellas County Traffic Alert: Massive Wave Of Lane Closures Starts This Sunday

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – Pinellas County drivers are looking at a busy week on the roads as the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) kicks off a series of scheduled lane closures beginning Sunday, April 5.

The maintenance and construction blitz spans from the Sunshine Skyway Bridge up to the northern county line, affecting major arteries like I-275, US 19, and Ulmerton Road through April 11.

Commuters using the I-275 Sunshine Skyway Bridge should prepare for night work from Sunday through Thursday, with lanes closing between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. Further north on I-275, between 38th Avenue North and Roosevelt Boulevard, crews will be active from 8:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. throughout the same period.

Several long-term projects continue to impact daily traffic patterns. On SR 60 (Gulf to Bay Boulevard), eastbound lanes from Bayshore to Dr. Kiran C. Patel Boulevard will remain closed 24 hours a day through the spring.

Similarly, SR 586 (Curlew Road) will have eastbound lane closures around the clock near McMullen Booth Road until late 2026. South Pinellas residents will also deal with 24-hour closures at the 62nd Avenue S Bridge over Maximo Channel through the summer, though a temporary traffic signal is managing two-way traffic over the span.

Alternate US 19 will see significant activity across multiple stretches. Between Meres Boulevard and Tampa Road, flagging operations will slow down night travelers from 7:30 p.m. to 7 a.m.

During the day, flagging will shift to the area between E. Curlew Place and St. Andrews Drive from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nightly closures are also slated for Tyrone Boulevard near Park Street.

For those on US 19, night work is scheduled between Tampa Road and Oak Street, as well as from Main Street to Curlew Road, beginning at 7 p.m. or 8 p.m. and wrapping up by early morning.

Daytime travelers should also watch for lane restrictions on SR 687 (4th Street North) and SR 688 (Ulmerton Road), where work is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. all week. A single-night operation on East Bay Drive is set for Thursday, April 9, starting at 8:30 p.m. and ending the following morning.
