PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — Drivers in Pinellas County should prepare for a week of detours and potential delays as the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) rolls out a new series of lane closures starting January 18. The upcoming work schedule affects major arteries, including I-275, US 19, and several key roads.

If your commute takes you along the interstates at night, plan for extra travel time. Crews will be closing lanes on I-175 between 16th Street South and 4th Street South from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly, beginning Sunday, January 18 through Thursday, January 22.

Simultaneously, I-275 will see significant activity between 38th Avenue North and 4th Street North. Motorists can expect lane closures in both directions and traffic shifts in the southbound lanes from 8:30 p.m. to 6 a.m., also running Sunday through Thursday.

US 19 and Alt 19 Night Work

Several stretches of US 19 and Alternate US 19 are scheduled for overnight maintenance during the same Sunday to Thursday window. Drivers should watch for construction crews and lane reductions at the following locations:

  • US 19: Closures from SR 580 (Main Street) to SR 586 (Curlew Road), and from Drew Street to Sunset Point Road. Work is scheduled from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Alt US 19 (Tyrone Blvd): Closures from 5th Ave N to Park Street between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Alt US 19 (North Pinellas): Closures from Meres Boulevard to Tampa Road between 7:30 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Daytime Delays

While much of the heavy lifting is happening overnight, daytime drivers aren’t entirely in the clear. Starting Monday, January 19, crews will be active on several busy corridors.

East Bay Drive (SR 686) will have lane closures between US 19 and Belcher Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday. Similarly, Ulmerton Road (from 49th Street N to Egret Blvd) and Gandy Boulevard (west of 94th Ave N to Derby Lane) will see lane reductions from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. throughout the work week.

Further north, Alt US 19 will see daytime work from E Curlew Place to St. Andrews Drive (7 a.m. to 7 p.m.) and at Anclote Road/Coquina Drive (8 a.m. to 6 p.m.).

Ongoing 24-Hour Projects

Commuters should also remain aware of two long-term projects that continue to impact traffic flow around the clock. Eastbound lane closures remain in effect 24 hours a day on SR 60 (Gulf to Bay Blvd) from S. Bayshore Boulevard to Dr. Kiran C. Patel Boulevard, as well as on SR 586 (Curlew Road) eastbound from McMullen Booth Road to Tampa Road. Both projects are expected to persist through 2026.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution in these work zones and obey all posted speed limits.
