PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – Two firefighters were injured Friday morning when a driver crashed into them at Safety Harbor Fire Station 53.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was assisting 63-year-old Malinda White, whose Cadillac XT5 had become disabled on McMullen Booth Road. The deputy used his patrol car’s push bumper to move the vehicle off the roadway.

White was instructed to turn into the Chi Chi Rodriguez Driving Range, but instead continued past the entrance and abruptly turned into the fire station parking lot. Her vehicle struck Firefighter/Paramedic Ryan Craig and Captain Joseph Hans before hitting the wall of the fire station.

Captain Hans was transported to the hospital in stable condition. Firefighter Craig sustained a minor injury and was treated at the scene. White was also transported to the hospital in stable condition.

The Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating the crash. It is unclear why White failed to turn into the driving range as instructed.
