PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – Pinellas County law enforcement agencies are launching a county-wide DUI “Wolf Pack” operation this weekend, dedicating their efforts to the memory of the McConnell family, who were tragically killed by an impaired driver 15 years ago.

On August 1, 2010, Rory, Roy III, Nathan, and Kelly McConnell were returning from a birthday celebration when their vehicle was struck by a driver who ran a red light at over 80 mph in St. Petersburg. The force of the collision was so severe it slammed their car into a concrete light pole, killing all four instantly.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office announced the dedication, stating, “Impaired driving is a crime with no intended target, and any innocent motorist could be its next victim. We proudly dedicate this operation to the McConnell family as we continue the fight to prevent such senseless tragedies.”

This dedicated effort brings together Pinellas County deputies and several local police agencies in a coordinated initiative to get impaired drivers off the roads.

The operation, a reminder of the devastating consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, reinforces law enforcement’s commitment to preventing future incidents and reducing traffic-related deaths and injuries.
