PLANT CITY, Fla. – The wait is over for Plant City. After a split municipal election last month left two commission seats empty, voters returned to the polls today to finally make their choice.
Tonight, Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Craig Latimer posted the unofficial Election Night results for the Plant City Municipal Runoff Election on VoteHillsborough.gov, showing Karen Kerr and John Haney securing the remaining spots.
In the race for City Commissioner Group 3, Karen Kerr took the win with 1,994 votes, capturing 52.75% of the total. Tony Smith followed with 1,786 votes, making up the remaining 47.25%.
The contest for City Commissioner Group 4 saw John Haney secure a decisive lead with 2,036 votes, or 54.83%. Camryn Henry brought in 1,677 votes, finishing with 45.17%.
Tonight’s numbers account for all seven participating precincts. The totals include early voting, vote-by-mail ballots, and all in-person Election Day votes. However, the current count does not include provisional ballots or mail-in ballots that still need a signature fix.
Voters have until 5 p.m. on May 28 to cure any vote-by-mail signature issues or provide proof of eligibility for a provisional ballot.
Following state law, the Canvassing Board will meet to certify these first unofficial results right at that 5 p.m. deadline on May 28. The board will gather again the following morning, May 29 at 11 a.m., to officially certify the final results and conduct a routine post-election audit to double-check the tabulated votes.
