Police Identify Suspect In Fatal Targeted Shooting Of St. Petersburg City Worker

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Authorities have identified the suspect in the fatal shooting of a St. Petersburg city employee on Wednesday afternoon.

Police named 44-year-old Ladavion King as the suspect in the death of a 47-year-old sanitation technician. King is currently in the custody of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Lee County.

According to police, officers responded to a call of a person shot in the 4100 block of 12th Avenue South shortly after noon on Wednesday, July 22.

Investigators found the victim shot and killed while sitting inside her front-loader work vehicle. The victim, whose name has not been released, was a 12-year employee of the City of St. Petersburg’s sanitation department and a mother of four children.

Police stated that the victim and King knew each other and characterized the incident as a targeted attack.

Following the shooting, the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle and drove south. Later Wednesday afternoon, Florida Highway Patrol troopers located him in Lee County.

Troopers alongside deputies from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office stopped the suspect on the southbound lanes of Interstate 75. King was taken into custody following a stand-off with law enforcement officers.
