A massive manhunt is underway for the suspect behind the deadly shooting at Brown University, with authorities releasing new images Monday of a person of interest and offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
The focus of the investigation shifted on Monday after officials confirmed that a person of interest detained overnight Sunday has been released and cleared of any involvement.
Investigators are now searching for a different individual seen in newly released photos and video footage. The person of interest is described as having a stocky build and standing approximately 5 feet, 8 inches tall.

The attack, which erupted Saturday afternoon inside an engineering building during final exams, left two students dead and nine others wounded.
Providence Mayor Brett Smiley provided an update on the survivors, noting that seven of those hospitalized remain in stable condition. One victim is listed in critical condition, while another injured individual has been discharged.
“This is an incredibly upsetting and emotional time for Providence and Brown — for all of us,” Smiley said.
University President Christina Paxson confirmed that all victims were students.
While a shelter-in-place order for the campus was lifted, the university stated that police activity remains high. Authorities are still working to determine how the shooter accessed the specific area of the attack. According to Mayor Smiley, while the building’s outer doors were unlocked, the first-floor classroom where the violence occurred required badge access.

“In a building like that on a weekend, there are a lot of things going on,” Brown Provost Francis Doyle noted, citing study sessions and research labs operating at the time. “So we don’t have detailed knowledge of exactly what was happening, but we’re working with law enforcement.”
Authorities are urging anyone with information on the individual in the surveillance images to come forward immediately.
