It likely won’t make any difference, considering how divided the country is, but perhaps some liberals will believe the longstanding allegations of the Biden family’s corruption, now that it has been confirmed by an outlet on their side.
Politico reported on Tuesday that Joe Biden’s denials of being involved in his son Hunter’s dubious overseas business practices were false.
The New York Post had reported on these allegations last October, noting that Hunter’s wayward laptop contained emails verifying his father’s knowledge of and involvement in Hunter’s deals with interests in Ukraine and China.
Joe Biden had maintained that he knew nothing about the transactions and had never spoken to his son about them.
Accordingly, as the election loomed, Big Tech quashed the Post’s articles as “disinformation.” Politico itself had fed that movement by reporting on a letter signed by 50 top U.S. intelligence experts who argued the Post’s reporting had “all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.”
Now, however, Politico says the Post nailed it.
Citing a new book on the Bidens by one of its staffers, Ben Schreckinger, Politico conceded that Schreckinger “finds evidence that some of the purported Hunter Biden laptop material is genuine, including two emails at the center of last October’s controversy.”
“A person who had independent access to Hunter Biden’s emails confirmed he did receive a 2015 email from a Ukrainian businessman thanking him for the chance to meet Joe Biden,” Politico noted.
Recall that two years ago, as Democrats moved to impeach then-President Donald Trump over his call with Ukraine’s president, Republicans counterattacked by noting comments Joe Biden made while out of office and before he became a candidate.
Biden had publicly bragged about the 2016 firing of Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin at a Council of Foreign Relations event in 2018.
“I looked at them and said: I’m leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor is not fired, you’re not getting the money,” Biden told CFR, referring to a $1 billion aid package the U.S. was providing its Eastern European ally.
“Well, son of a bitch. He got fired,” said Biden.
While the Obama administration asserted Shokin was corrupt, the prosecutor at the time was looking into corrupt practices by executives of the energy company Burisma, which had hired Hunter Biden for its board for $50,000 a month.
As for the second email, Politico added, “The same goes for a 2017 email in which a proposed equity breakdown of a venture with Chinese energy executives includes the line, ‘10 held by H for the big guy?’ (This person recalled seeing both emails, but was not in a position to compare the leaked emails word-for-word to the originals.)”
That was a reference to allegations made last year by Tony Bobulinski, Hunter’s former business partner, in an interview with Tucker Carlson of Fox News.
In October Bobulinksi maintained that he had been brought in to help broker a deal with Hunter’s firm and a Chinese energy company linked to that nation’s communist government. Bobulinski said that it was made clear to him that 10 percent of the company’s equity was to be set aside for “the big guy,” Joe Biden.
As The Wall Street Journal noted at the time, the deal itself was not a problem because Joe Biden was a private citizen. Rather, it was a question of character – an interesting one given that Joe Biden has a long history of stretching the truth.
In an editorial, the Journal pointed out that Biden “is asking voters to elect him on the strength of his character, honesty, and judgment.” Yet Bobulinki’s credible claims “make clear that Mr. Biden hasn’t been honest about his knowledge of his son’s business affairs.”
“Joe Biden appears to have aided his son’s transactions with often shady characters in Ukraine, China, Kazakhstan and beyond,” the Journal continued. “Mr. Biden might be forgiven for wanting to help a troubled son succeed, but to ignore the ethical and security risks attached to Hunter’s Chinese Communist partners is bad judgment.”
Citing the Politico article on Tuesday, independent journalist Glenn Greenwald also noted the malfeasance of those who helped cover up the Post’s stories on the Bidens.
“The pre-election joint censorship campaign by the media, Big Tech & CIA was always a gigantic story,” he tweeted. “The CIA spun an outright lie about these docs that helped these platforms censor the docs while *journalists* cheered that. In light of this new book, it’s time to revisit it.”
Greenwald is correct. Schreckinger’s book surely makes it time for those on the left, if they can summon the humility and intellectual honesty, to admit the nation is owed the full truth of President Biden’s dealings with these foreign interests.
