Polk County: 83-Year-Old Davenport Woman Killed In Crash After Hitting Power Pole

POLK COUNTY, FL. – The Polk County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit investigated a single-vehicle fatality on Saturday, January 1, 2022, in unincorporated Davenport.

At approximately 4:05 p.m., the PCSO Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call from the area of US Highway 27 just south of Bella Citta Boulevard.

Polk County Fire Rescue responded and transported the driver and sole occupant, 83-year-old Helen McDonald of Davenport, to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Shortly after arriving at the hospital, she was declared deceased.

Deputies say that evidence at the scene and witness statements indicate that McDonald’s blue 2007 Toyota Yaris was heading south on US Highway 27 when for unknown reasons it crossed the grass median and went across three northbound lanes, then onto the east shoulder before striking a power pole.

US Highway 27 was closed for approximately 4 hours in the area of the crash.
