Polk County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Tampa Woman for Dangerous Excessive Speeding

POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A Polk County Sheriff’s deputy on Wednesday arrested a Tampa woman for dangerous, excessive speeding, and other traffic violations.

According to investigators, Deputy Janiak was conducting traffic enforcement on I-4 near Lakeland at approximately 10:55 PM when he spotted a silver Mercedes sedan traveling at a high rate of speed. A radar check revealed that the vehicle was traveling at 100 mph, 30 mph over the posted 70 mph speed limit.

The vehicle was also passing multiple cars and changing lanes rapidly.

The deputy initiated a traffic stop on the Mercedes and made contact with the driver, identified as 31-year-old Jasmi’n Love Garrett of Tampa. Garrett informed the deputy that she was on her way to work in Orlando.

Due to the extreme speed and reckless driving, Jasmi’n Garrett was arrested by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and transported to the Polk County Jail. She was charged with Dangerous Excessive Speeding and was additionally cited for Following Too Closely.

A review of Garrett’s driving record revealed an extensive history of driving issues, including 21 prior license suspensions or revocations for offenses such as DUIs and failure to pay traffic fines.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office reminds all drivers to obey posted speed limits and to drive defensively to ensure the safety of themselves and others.
