POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A Polk City man died early Thursday morning, April 23, 2026, following an ATV crash and a subsequent collision with a passing vehicle on Fussell Road. Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the scene, located about two miles north of Polk City, at approximately 3:01 a.m.
First responders located the victim, 39-year-old Brandon Roy Moran, deceased at the scene with severe head trauma.
Preliminary data from Traffic Homicide investigators indicates that Moran was operating a Polaris Sportsman 400 All-Terrain Vehicle when he lost control.

The driver was ejected from the ATV and struck his head on the pavement. Investigators report that Moran remained on the ground for an unknown duration before his head was struck by an unidentified passing vehicle.
The driver of the second vehicle did not stop at the scene. Authorities stated the driver may have been unaware that their vehicle struck the victim.
Fussell Road was closed to traffic for approximately four hours while investigators processed the site. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
