Polk County K9 Gives Locked-In Frostproof Suspect A Very Sudden Change Of Heart

POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A 44-year-old Frostproof man with a lengthy rap sheet is back behind bars after a Friday afternoon domestic dispute led deputies on a brief game of hide-and-seek.

Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies rushed to a home on West F Street around 5:15 p.m. on May 22nd following a frantic 911 call regarding a battery complaint. By the time law enforcement arrived at the scene, the suspect had already bolted from the residence. Witnesses pointed deputies toward a massive, multi-room storage shed on the property, where they believed the man was holed up.

Deputies found the outbuilding securely locked from the inside. Despite pounding on the doors and shouting numerous commands for the suspect to come out, the structure remained completely silent.

Faced with a barricaded subject, deputies managed to breach the lock and open the door, but the cluttered, sprawling layout of the interior made it impossible to see where the suspect was hiding. Deputies gave several more loud verbal warnings into the dark structure, offering one last chance for a peaceful surrender.

They received no response, so they sent in the heavy reinforcement.

The moment K9 Wit crossed the threshold into the shed, the suspect’s resolve vanished. Christopher Dan Alexander immediately emerged from the shadows with his hands in the air, surrendering to deputies without further incident.

A background check revealed Alexander is no stranger to the local jail, with a rap sheet boasting prior arrests for battery, theft, DUI, leaving the scene of a crash, trespassing, resisting arrest, and drug possession, deputies say.

Alexander was transported to the Sheriff’s Processing Center. He now faces new charges of felony battery on a person over 65 and misdemeanor resisting law enforcement without violence.
