MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A fishing excursion to the Florida Keys ended in an arrest this week for a 43-year-old Polk County man.
Salvadore Boyzo, a resident of Eagle Lake, was taken into custody Thursday at the south end of the Seven Mile Bridge after a law enforcement officer flagged him for a conservation violation.
Lower Keys Marine Deputy Luis Guiardinu was conducting a routine patrol at approximately 5:18 p.m. when he spotted Boyzo with his catch.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the angler was in possession of two mutton snapper. Upon closer inspection, the deputy determined that while Boyzo had two fish, one of them did not meet the legal length requirements established by the state.

Following the discovery of the undersized mutton snapper, Boyzo was arrested and transported to jail.
Florida wildlife officials emphasize that size limits are a critical tool for maintaining sustainable fish populations in the Keys. For those planning a trip to the coast, the most current fishing regulations and harvest requirements are available at www.myfwc.com.
