POLK COUNTY, Fla. – An Eagle Lake man is behind bars after attempting to hide from Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies inside a backyard shed on Friday, June 5th.
Deputies arrived at a residence on Fruitland Park Circle to serve an active arrest warrant for 40-year-old Tony Griffis Hunt. The outstanding warrant was for failure to appear in court on previous charges of resisting officer without violence and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Upon arriving at the property, deputies suspected that Hunt was hiding inside a shed. Law enforcement officers issued multiple verbal commands for Hunt to exit the structure, but received no response. After repeated warnings went unanswered, deputies deployed K9 Java into the building.
According to authorities, Hunt immediately fled from the shed and surrendered to deputies without further incident as the police dog entered.
Following his arrest, deputies discovered Hunt was in possession of a glass pipe containing methamphetamine. Hunt was transported to the Sheriff’s Processing Center. In addition to his existing warrant, he now faces new charges of felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
