POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A Winter Haven man, Kevin Cole, 56, is back behind bars after an arrest in Polk County, mere hours after his ex-girlfriend drove across county lines and paid his bond to get him out of a Hillsborough County jail.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd addressed the bizarre sequence of events in his “Morning Briefing,” expressing disbelief at the suspect’s lack of appreciation, calling him a “jerk with a capital J.”

The incident began when Cole successfully persuaded his ex-girlfriend to pick him up and bond him out of the detention facility. However, the long drive back to Polk County took a turn for the worse. According to the Sheriff’s Office, as the pair approached Davenport, Cole allegedly became “snarky,” then “ugly,” and finally “threatening” toward the woman who had just rescued him from jail.

Feeling unsafe, the ex-girlfriend pulled into a Circle K gas station in Davenport and contacted 911. When Polk County deputies arrived on the scene, Cole reportedly continued his aggressive behavior. He was described by Judd as an “absolute total jerk” to the deputies, cussing and threatening them.

When confronted, Cole allegedly told deputies, “I don’t care just take me to jail revoke my bond.” The deputies obliged, charging him with new crimes and revoking his bond, sending him right back into custody.

Judd noted that the message for anyone who goes “berserk on the deputies” is clear: “you’re going to go to jail every time. That’s a guarantee.”
