POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A Fort Meade resident got a bizarre surprise early Thursday morning when a woman allegedly stole his car, only to drive it right back to his house while deputies were already on their way.
The incident began around 2:30 a.m. on July 2nd, when Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies received a call about a vehicle theft at a local home. The victim told authorities that 25-year-old Noemi Cabrera of Bowling Green—whom he identified as his brother’s friend—was inside the residence when she suddenly grabbed his car keys. She then drove off in his gray 2010 Chevy Malibu without permission.
However, the car theft took an unexpected turn. While deputies were still en route to the scene, Cabrera drove the Malibu back to the victim’s house, parked it, and took off running.
A responding K9 deputy spotted Cabrera walking a short distance away. When she ignored initial orders to stop, the deputy gave a final warning, telling her to “stop or he would release his K9.” Cabrera complied and was taken into custody without further incident.
Following her arrest, deputies discovered that Cabrera already had an active Polk County warrant hanging over her head. The outstanding warrant included charges of defrauding a financial institution, burglary of a conveyance, petit theft, fraudulent use of a credit card, and criminal use of personal identification.
Cabrera was transported to the Sheriff’s Processing Center. In addition to her existing warrant, she is now facing new charges of grand theft of a motor vehicle and resisting an officer without violence.
