A newly released CBS News poll reveals that 59% of voters approve of President-elect Donald Trump’s handling of the transition to his second term in office.

The survey comes amid continued scrutiny of Trump’s leadership and policies, as voters express mixed feelings about the country’s direction and key policy priorities.

Voter Optimism for the Future

The CBS News/YouGov poll, conducted nationally with 2,232 U.S. adults from Nov. 19-22, found that 50% of respondents believe America’s best days lie ahead, while 39% think they are in the past, and 11% say the best days are happening now.

The survey highlights enthusiasm among Republican voters, with many expressing satisfaction with Trump’s Electoral College and popular vote victory. Among all respondents, 31% said they were happy about Trump’s return, 24% were satisfied, 23% were dissatisfied, and 21% were angry.

Key Concerns: Economy and Immigration

Throughout his campaign, Trump prioritized economic growth, inflation control, and immigration reform, issues consistently ranked as top voter concerns. However, opinions on the state of the economy remain divided.

  • Economic Outlook: While 31% of respondents described the economy as “fairly good” and 11% said it is “very good,” 54% rated it as “fairly bad” (29%) or “very bad” (25%).
  • Grocery Prices: When asked about the impact of Trump’s presidency on food and grocery costs, 44% believe prices will decrease, 35% think they will increase, and 21% expect no change.

On immigration, 57% of voters support Trump starting a program to deport all illegal immigrants in the U.S. The survey also shows strong support for various enforcement methods:

  • 82% favor using immigration and Border Patrol agencies,
  • 64% support involving federal law enforcement,
  • 40% advocate for military assistance.

Support for Trump’s Cabinet Picks

Trump’s cabinet nominations have garnered significant approval among Republican voters, despite pushback from Democrats. Key appointments include:

  • Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence: Supported by 71% of Trump voters, with only 5% disapproving.
  • Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense: Backed by 64%.
  • Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Director of Health & Human Services: Supported by 80%.
  • Marco Rubio as Secretary of State: Approved by 75%.

Challenges Ahead

Despite voter optimism about Trump’s return to the White House, the poll reflects lingering concerns about economic challenges and polarization over immigration policies. Trump’s ability to address these issues and deliver on campaign promises will shape the success of his second term.

As Trump prepares to take office, his administration faces both strong support from his base and continued opposition from critics, setting the stage for a dynamic and closely watched term.
