Pompano Beach Man Cited For Stone Crab Violations In The Florida Keys

A Pompano Beach man received three mandatory court citations Wednesday afternoon after a marine deputy discovered illegal stone crabs aboard his vessel in Islamorada.

Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Marine Deputy Jason Farr was patrolling near Mile Marker 90 at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Aug. 5, 2026, when he spotted several snorkelers in the water near a boat that was not displaying a dive flag.

Upon inspection of the boat, Deputy Farr found two whole, undersized stone crabs that were harvested out of season.

The vessel operator, 53-year-old Derik Joseph Wanger, was issued three mandatory notice-to-appear citations for failure to display a dive flag, possession of undersized stone crab, and possession of stone crab out of season.
