A disagreement over a closed swimming pool at an Islamorada marina spiraled into a violent standoff Saturday morning, ending with a Miami liveaboard being tased and placed behind bars.

Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Plantation Yacht Harbor Marina at Founders Park around 10:59 a.m. According to reports, marina staff had informed 47-year-old Eric Daniel Beare that the facility’s pool was closed, but he wasn’t having it.

When deputies arrived to trespass Beare from the property, the situation escalated. Authorities say Beare refused to comply with commands and fled to his boat. Once aboard, he reportedly barricaded himself and armed himself with a pole.

During the confrontation, Beare allegedly threw a fuel jug at a deputy.

Deputies deployed a Taser multiple times to subdue Beare as he continued to resist arrest. He was eventually taken into custody and transported to Mariners Hospital in Tavernier for medical evaluation before being booked into jail.

Beare has been charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, trespassing, and resisting arrest. No serious injuries were reported during the incident.
