A two-vehicle collision on US-19 at Highlands Boulevard this morning resulted in the death of a motorcyclist and prompted the closure of all northbound lanes, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

The crash occurred at approximately 7:25 AM.

Troopers say a Kia Niro driven by a 45-year-old man from Port Richey was traveling southbound on US-19, and a Harley-Davidson motorcycle operated by a 42-year-old man from Homestead was traveling north.

At the intersection of Highlands Boulevard, the driver of the Kia Niro made a left turn, entering the path of the northbound motorcycle. The two vehicles subsequently collided.

The 42-year-old motorcyclist was transported to an area hospital but later succumbed to the injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver of the Kia Niro was transported to a hospital with minor injuries. A passenger in the sedan, a 49-year-old woman from Port Richey, was reported uninjured. Authorities have not released the identities of those involved at this time.

FHP troopers are on the scene conducting a full investigation. As a result, all northbound lanes of US-19 at Highlands Boulevard remain closed, and motorists should anticipate major traffic delays throughout the morning commute.
