BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – A single-vehicle accident involving a county transit bus has triggered power outages and forced a road closure in Brooksville today.
The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene on Howell Avenue, near the intersection of Highland Street, shortly after 11 a.m.
Preliminary findings from investigators suggest that a driver for “Hernando County Transit – TheBus” fell asleep while behind the wheel. This caused the vehicle to veer off the roadway and strike a nearby utility pole.

According to authorities, there were no passengers on board the bus at the time of the collision. The driver sustained minor injuries but was the only person involved in the incident.
The impact with the utility pole resulted in an immediate disruption of electrical power to the surrounding area. A repair crew from Duke Energy is currently on-site working to restore service to affected customers.
Drivers are being advised to seek alternate routes until the area is cleared and power infrastructure is stabilized.
