Florida’s Republican leadership is sounding the alarm over a new redistricting referendum in Virginia, calling the move a calculated effort by Democrats to manipulate congressional boundaries.
Evan Power, Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida, issued a sharp rebuke this week, characterizing the shift in Virginia’s map-making process as a “partisan power grab” aimed at shielding an “increasingly unpopular national Democrat brand.”
The core of the dispute centers on a referendum that alters Virginia’s existing bipartisan redistricting framework. Critics argue the change effectively hands control to politicians in Richmond, potentially clearing the way for maps that favor Democratic candidates in upcoming election cycles.
“Virginia Democrats are doing the bidding of the radical D.C. swamp — passing the most radical, gerrymandered map we’ve seen in recent years,” Power stated. He described the situation as part of a “coordinated, national effort” to maintain political control, promising that Florida Republicans would respond “decisively” through voter turnout.

The Florida GOP has increasingly linked out-of-state redistricting battles to their broader platform on election integrity. Power pointed to recent legal victories by the Republican National Committee and the Florida GOP as evidence of their commitment to “stop election interference.”
The party’s statement warned that moving away from transparent, bipartisan reforms undermines public trust and sets a “dangerous precedent” for the rest of the country. As the political landscape shifts toward the midterms, Florida leadership is urging its base to focus on the polls to counter these legislative changes.
“The only way to stop the Left and their games is to overwhelm them with turnout,” Power said. “In the upcoming midterms, we must send a clear message: We stand with the President, our conservative principles and will not let politicians steal our elections!”
