The world of aerial mapping just got a significant boost. XTI Aerospace announced today that its subsidiary, Drone Nerds, is officially expanding its toolkit by adding the Freefly Systems FLUX LiDAR series to its enterprise lineup.

This move isn’t just about adding new gear to a catalog; it’s a strategic push to give professionals in construction, government, and inspection the high-precision tools they need to create digital twins of the physical world.

LiDAR, which stands for Light Detection and Ranging, is a remote sensing method that uses light in the form of a pulsed laser to measure ranges to the Earth. For companies trying to map a dense forest or inspect a massive bridge, it is the difference between a blurry estimate and a crystal-clear 3D model.

By partnering with Freefly Systems, Drone Nerds is positioning itself as a one-stop shop for organizations that need to capture complex data without the guesswork.

The new lineup is broken down into three specific tiers to meet different job site demands. For those who need a light footprint, the FLUX H1 focuses on high-precision mapping without weighing down the aircraft.

Meanwhile, the FLUX O1 is built for more sensitive work, specifically designed to meet NDAA compliance—a big deal for government agencies or regulated industries that have strict security standards for their hardware. Rounding out the set is the FLUX L1, which is the heavy hitter for long-range, wide-area projects where speed and coverage are the top priorities.

“LiDAR remote sensing technology is a critical tool for many enterprises,” said Jeremy Schneiderman, CEO of Drone Nerds. “By adding the Freefly Systems FLUX LiDAR series to our payload portfolio, Drone Nerds believes that it will strengthen its role as the partner enterprise customers rely on to select, integrate, and deploy LiDAR solutions that align with their aircraft, workflows, and operational requirements.”

“The FLUX LiDAR series was developed to support professionals who need reliable, high-quality data capture across a wide range of operational scenarios,” said Matt Isenbarger, CRO at Freefly Systems. “Working with Drone Nerds allows us to make these payloads more accessible to enterprise and public sector customers who value performance, flexibility, and practical integration into existing aerial workflows.”

As the drone industry continues to shift from “cool hobby” to “essential industrial tool,” the demand for specialized sensors like these is skyrocketing.

For Drone Nerds, which was acquired by XTI Aerospace late last year, this expansion is a clear sign that they intend to lead the pack in the commercial UAS market. For the engineers and surveyors on the ground, it simply means they have a few more high-powered options to get the job done right from the air.
