Professor Biden

‘Professor’ Biden Raked in Big Bucks Before Becoming President

For years Dr. Jill Biden, who earned an educational doctorate, said little to correct the assumption that her title referred to a medical degree – to the point that a year ago Whoopi Goldberg suggested she should serve as U.S. surgeon general if her husband won the presidential election.

And now it’s “Professor” Joe Biden.

Last month, in a speech to European leaders, gathered in Munich, now-President Biden said, “Two years ago, as you pointed out when I last spoke at Munich, I was a private citizen; I was a professor, not an elected official.”

On Wednesday, the conservative group Campus Reform recapped recently reported details about Biden’s claim, noting that he was paid gobs of money for very little work.

“He was a professor, although not in the conventional sense of the word, and not as a full-time job, such as an elected office,” Campus Reform said of Biden, who as he and President Barack Obama prepared to leave office, was hired by the University of Pennsylvania as the Benjamin Franklin Presidential Professor of Practice.

One media report suggested the title was created for Biden, since he was the first person to hold the job.

From February 2017 to April 2019, when he left to focus on his presidential bid, the Ivy League school paid Biden $911,643.

That meant his yearly average salary was more than double what Penn professors made annually on average.

According to Campus Reform, Penn president Amy Guttman heralded Biden’s hire, saying his “unsurpassed understanding of diplomacy and far-ranging grasp of world issues make him an ideal fit to further Penn’s global engagement —  including the work of Penn Global and Perry World House, signature initiatives to develop innovative interdisciplinary global strategies and programs that distinguish Penn as a global agenda-setter in higher education.”

Such expertise may have been why Biden was hired. But Campus Reform noted he did little to share that knowledge with students or anyone else.

Campus Reform reported Biden made nine appearances on campus during two years as “professor.”

Penn’s school newspaper pointed out that Biden’s gigs entailed three Q-and-A sessions with Gutmann; participating in panels that discussed immigration and also cancer; a pitch about his book; a lecture to a class at Wharton, Penn’s renowned business school; and one talk each with Mexico’s former President Felipe Calderon and Nick Clegg, a former deputy prime minister in Britain.

For all that, Biden was paid $101,294 each.

Nice work, if you can get it.

  1. It appears the educational system has been heavily infiltrated and heavily subsidized by the government. We need to take the whole system back and make education happen through private institutions only. Then we’d have better education and parents would have better choices as to where to send their children. The money going to taxes now could go back to the parents and the community could sponsor school support, which most people would be happy to contribute to. Local governments need more power. The federal and state governments have too much.

  2. Article fails to mention that Big Guy was instrumental in securing tens of millions in donations to UPenn, by whom?, well, by none other than the CCP. Him getting a cool one million as a *ickback by the university, is, well, just classic Big Guy.
