Profits Over People: New Poll Shows Voters Of All Stripes Have Had It With Corporate America

A massive shift in the American political landscape is underway as a new national poll reveals a rare moment of total bipartisan agreement: voters do not trust big business.

The March National Voter Trends report, released Monday by the polling firm Cygnal, found that a staggering 79% of likely voters believe large corporations prioritize their own bottom lines over the interests of regular Americans. The data suggests the traditional alliance between Republican voters and corporate interests has effectively collapsed.

While Democrats have long been skeptical of big business, the survey shows that 80% of Republicans now share that distrust. This sentiment is even stronger in rural areas, where 83% of residents expressed skepticism of corporate motives—outpacing their urban counterparts by nine points.

“Corporate America has spent years assuming that political friendliness from Republican voters translates into consumer trust. It does not,” said Brent Buchanan, Founder and CEO of Cygnal. He described the findings as a “structural collapse of institutional credibility.”

The frustration appears rooted in specific industry practices. According to the data, 89% of voters believe health insurance companies intentionally deny legitimate claims to increase profits. Additionally, 81% of respondents say pharmaceutical companies set high prices to satisfy shareholders rather than to fund medical research. Energy companies also face scrutiny, with 68% of voters accusing them of taking advantage of consumers to pad their earnings.

This shared frustration is fueling support for aggressive government intervention. One of the most popular policies identified in the poll was a federal cap on credit card interest rates, which voters supported by a massive 69-point margin.

Beyond corporate distrust, the poll highlighted several other shifting trends:

  • The American Dream: For the first time in months, a majority of voters (51%) believe the American Dream is still achievable. This optimism is being driven largely by a 29-point swing among Hispanic voters since last August.
  • Government Efficiency: The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) remains highly popular, with 71% of voters supporting efforts to cut federal spending.
  • Election Integrity: The SAVE Act maintains broad support, with 58% of voters backing the measure, including a significant portion of Independent and Hispanic voters.
  • AI Concerns: Despite recognizing the importance of U.S. leadership in technology, 55% of Americans believe Artificial Intelligence will have a negative impact on society over the next decade. Young voters aged 18 to 29 are the most pessimistic about the technology’s future.

The survey also touched on international concerns, finding that half of the electorate supports U.S. military strikes against Iran if necessary to prevent the development of a nuclear weapon.

The poll, which surveyed 1,500 likely general election voters between March 3 and March 4, carries a significant weight as candidates prepare for the 2026 midterm elections. As Buchanan noted, the “ground has shifted permanently,” and the old political playbooks regarding business and the economy may no longer apply.
