As President-elect Donald Trump prepares for his second inauguration on January 20, concerns are mounting over planned demonstrations by anti-Israel and socialist groups, including the Act Now to Stop War and End Racism (ANSWER) Coalition and the People’s Forum. Authorities are bracing for heightened security risks, as these groups have previously been linked to unlawful protests that resulted in violence and property destruction.

The groups have announced a protest titled “We Fight Back,” with Malcolm X Park serving as a key gathering point. Organizers have claimed the demonstration will mobilize against what they describe as Trump’s “ultra-right, billionaire agenda.” The protest is expected to draw thousands of participants, with Capitol Police estimating 10,000 attendees in multiple downtown locations.

In a press conference on Monday, Capitol Police Chief J. Thomas Manger confirmed that security forces anticipate more than 250,000 ticketed guests at the inauguration, with 25,000 law enforcement and military officers deployed to ensure safety.

Despite claims by organizers to maintain lawful protests, security experts are concerned about potential violence. Ryan Mauro, an investigative researcher at the Capital Research Center, stated, “These protestors are operatives of a pro-Iran, pro-terrorism, anti-American network. Anywhere they coalesce has a significant chance of violence, particularly towards police, and property destruction.”

The ANSWER Coalition and the People’s Forum have a controversial history of organizing rallies that led to chaos. During a July protest in Washington, D.C., demonstrators vandalized monuments, burned an American flag, and clashed with law enforcement. The National Park Service (NPS) revoked ANSWER’s permit after the event, citing $11,000 in damages from graffiti and vandalism.

The House Natural Resources Committee opened an investigation into these groups last year, citing their disregard for public gathering permit requirements. The committee has not yet announced the conclusion of its investigation.

Both groups have also hosted rallies featuring anti-Israel rhetoric and symbols. Following Hamas’ October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, which killed over 1,100 people, People’s Forum Executive Director Manolo De Los Santos publicly praised Hamas and organized rallies supporting the group’s actions.

ANSWER has announced plans for more than 70 demonstrations across the United States on Inauguration Day. Local officials and federal agencies are coordinating to manage crowds and prevent disruptions. However, the NPS has not confirmed whether permits have been issued for demonstrations in Washington, D.C.

Authorities are implementing extensive security measures to protect attendees and maintain order. Capitol Police confirmed that no permits for demonstrations on Capitol Grounds have been approved for January 20. A spokesperson emphasized the restricted jurisdiction for the inauguration.

While organizers have publicly called for peaceful demonstrations, the history of these groups raises questions about the potential for unrest. Federal and local law enforcement agencies remain on high alert, prepared to address any disruptions to the inaugural events.
