Tampa Bay Sends Catcher Danny Jansen to Milwaukee for Versatile 21-Year-Old Infielder
TAMPA, Fla. – The Tampa Bay Rays have acquired highly-touted infielder Jadher Areinamo from the Milwaukee Brewers. In exchange, the Brewers will receive veteran catcher Danny Jansen and cash considerations.
Areinamo, a 21-year-old switch-hitter, has been making waves in the minor leagues. In his second season with the Class-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, he’s posted an impressive .297/.355/.463 batting line with 24 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs, and 51 RBI over 94 games.
His 109 hits lead all Brewers farmhands and the entire Midwest League, where he also paces the league in total bases (170). Areinamo’s offensive prowess extends to ranking second in batting average and doubles, and being tied for second in extra-base hits (37) in the Midwest League.

Beyond his bat, Areinamo offers valuable defensive versatility, having started at shortstop (48 games), second base (27 games), and third base (17 games) this season. He’s a highly regarded prospect, ranked as the Brewers’ No. 10 prospect by Baseball America and No. 24 by MLB.com.
This isn’t Areinamo’s first taste of success. In 2024, he won the Midwest League batting title with a .301 average and a league-leading 30 doubles over 110 games with Wisconsin. He’s been consistently recognized for his performance, earning postseason All-Star selections in the Midwest League (2024), Carolina League (2023), and Arizona Complex League (2022). He was also named a Brewers Organizational All-Star by MLB.com in 2023 and tabbed as the Best Defensive Second Baseman in both the Midwest League (2024) and Carolina League (2023) by Baseball America.

Hailing from Maracay, Venezuela, Areinamo was signed by the Brewers as an international free agent in January 2021.
In the trade, the Rays part ways with 30-year-old catcher Danny Jansen, who was in his eighth major league season. Jansen appeared in 73 games for the Rays this season, hitting .204 with eight doubles, 11 home runs, and 29 RBI. He joined the Rays as a free agent on December 12, 2024, after splitting time with the Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox last year.
