Rays Inside The Numbers: Current 13-Game Stretch Goes Into Franchise Record Book

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Lucky 13? For the opposition it has been anything but lucky. After all, with Shane McClanahan picking up the win in a 3-0 victory over the Blue Jays in a Wednesday matinee at Tropicana Field, the Rays have gone a franchise-record 13 straight games without allowing more than three runs. It is an eye-opening string of pitching success that bests a run of 12 such games in 2014.

Here are a handful of other impressive pitching numbers from a team that swept a six-game homestand from the Blue Jays and Twins while winning their 10th straight game at home and 12th of 13 overall.

0.98: Staff ERA in the six-game homestand sweep, the Rays’ lowest ever for a multi-series homestand.

0.99: Bullpen ERA in the last 13 games.

1: Lefty Ian Seymour recorded his first career save Wednesday afternoon.

2.33: ERA versus the American League this season. (It is 4.77 against the NL.)

3: Shutout wins this season, each in a nine-day stretch beginning April 28 at Cleveland.

7: Pitchers who have won at least one game during the 13-game stretch noted above.

16 2/3: McClanahan’s scoreless inning streak after blanking Toronto for 5 2/3 innings Wednesday. It is a string that commenced with five scoreless innings versus Minnesota on April 25 and picked up steam by keeping San Francisco off the board for six innings last Friday.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Rays had to feel very good about their chances Sunday afternoon when Manuel Margot crossed the plate with their third run. It was only the second inning and the Texas lineup is the most productive in MLB, even ahead of Tampa Bay’s, yet Shane McClanahan’s career mark when his teammates supply him with three-plus runs of support was 31-4.

17 1/3: Scoreless innings streak the bullpen will take into Boston on Thursday night.

18: Runs allowed in the last 13 games.

24: Career wins by McClanahan at home. The USF product is 24-8 with a 2.78 ERA.

76: The Rays have allowed only one home run — Toronto’s Kazuma Okamoto on Tuesday – in the last 76 innings dating to the fifth inning of a 3-2 loss in Cleveland on April 27.

The Rays begin a four-game series in Boston on Thursday night. Griffin Jax (1-2, 5.14) will make his third straight opening appearance. He will be opposed by lefthander Jake Bennett, who won his MLB debut versus Houston last week.
