Washington, D.C., is on lockdown – but not for COVID-19.
National Guard troops have flooded the nation’s capital in recent days, a presence intended to deter violence that may surface at President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration on Wednesday in the wake of the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.
But it wouldn’t be Washington or national politics with a big dose of hypocrisy from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Last Wednesday the San Francisco Democrat tweeted photos of herself greeting some of the troops protecting the Capitol.
“Even during this dark time in the history of America, we find reasons for hope,” she wrote in the tweet.
“It was my privilege today to personally thank members of the National Guard who are working protect our nation’s Capitol. Thank you for your commitment to our American democracy.”
But last summer when such troops were called out to try to protect many major cities from looters and rioters associated with Black Lives Matter and Antifa protests occurring after the death of George Floyd, Pelosi was not in a mood for warm-and-fuzzies with soldiers.
Pelosi criticized President Donald Trump for utilizing National Guard troops to safeguard federal property, including in Washington, D.C., as riots ensued.
“It is alarming that here in our nation’s capital, the thousands who have turned out peacefully have been confronted with the deployment of various security officers from multiple jurisdictions, including unidentified federal law enforcement personnel,” the House’s top Democrat wrote to Trump on June 4.
“We have seen soldiers on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. We have witnessed Bureau of Prisons officers in Lafayette Square. We have seen National Park Service officers hassling peaceful protesters. Several states have deployed members of their National Guard to D.C. This is in addition to the FBI and other security forces operating in our nation’s capital,” she added.
Continuing, Pelosi wrote, “We are concerned about the increased militarization and lack of clarity that may increase chaos. I am writing to request a full list of the agencies involved and clarifications of the roles and responsibilities of the troops and federal law enforcement resources operating in the city.”
She concluded, “As peaceful people all over the country turn out to honor the memory of George Floyd and protest for change, we must ensure that their safety and their constitutional rights are being respected.”
At least one Republican, meanwhile, sees a line of attack on Pelosi and other Democrats who sanctimoniously denounced Trump and other conservatives for instigating the Jan. 6 melee.
In an interview with Fox News on Sunday, South Carolina GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham noted that Pelosi is ultimately responsible for security in her part of Congress.
“To see people come and take over the Capitol – the House and the Senate – beat officers, defile the seat of government. How in the hell could that happen? Where was Nancy Pelosi? It’s her job to provide Capitol security,” Graham said.
“We’ll get to the bottom of that.”
Nancy Pelosi is the one above the law, all time harreser, abuser of power , and the rest of her Democrat cult. Remove them from power try them in court.
