Looking for a special way to celebrate Father’s Day? The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) invites residents and visitors to spend quality time with dad by offering a license-free freshwater fishing weekend on June 14 and 15.

This popular annual event allows anglers of all ages and skill levels to enjoy Florida’s abundant freshwater fishing opportunities without the need for a recreational fishing license. The weekend coincides with Father’s Day, making it a perfect opportunity for family-friendly outdoor recreation.

Whether from a boat, a pier, or the shore of a lake or river, Florida’s freshwater ecosystems are teeming with a variety of species, including largemouth bass, crappie, and bream. To help anglers find the perfect spot, the FWC provides an online resource at MyFWC.com/FishingAccess, which maps out boat ramps and fishing piers across the state.

For those new to the sport or in need of a refresher, the FWC’s fishing basics webpage offers valuable tips and information to get started. While the license requirement is waived for this special weekend, all other fishing regulations, including bag limits, size limits, and seasons, remain in effect.

The FWC encourages everyone who has a great time on the water to consider purchasing a fishing license for future outings. License fees contribute to the conservation and management of Florida’s aquatic resources, ensuring healthy fish populations for generations to come.
