U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz recently slammed the Biden administration for suggesting that North America needs to resemble the European Union.
The Fort Walton Beach Republican appeared on Fox News on Friday with host Tucker Carlson to denounce the “globalist left” for wanting to essentially erase America’s borders.
At issue were comments by Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. Carlson played a clip of Lopez Obrador speaking last month at a summit meeting in Mexico where he met with Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
Lopez Obrador said Blinken spoke about “consolidating the region of North America.” “We agree on that,” he added. “We are also in favor of a unity of the entire American continent — like the way the first European community emerged and converted into the European Union.”
“That’s what we want,” Lopez Obrador noted.

Carlson chided the idea, saying the Biden administration would have the U.S. “merge with the [drug] cartels” that run Mexico.
According to the Fox host, Gaetz sent Blinken a letter asking him exactly what Lopez Obrador meant by talk of a consolidated continent and criticized the idea.
The proposal, Gaetz said, means “the globalist Left wants a homogenized America because they do not think that much of the United States of America in the first place.”
According to Fox News, which obtained a copy of Gaetz’s letter, the congressman noted Lopez Obrador was referring to a private conversation with Blinken that covered a “regional constitution to be carried out in furtherance of an economic agenda, indicating such features as open borders, shared technology, and the distribution of oil.”
“Such a vision of a ‘North American Union’ is entirely out of step with Americans’ vision for our nation. It is nothing less than a war on American sovereignty,” Gaetz wrote to Blinken. “Our citizens have the right to self-determination and self-rule. As a Secretary of State, your mandate is loyalty to the interests of our people, not the economic development of a narco-state.”
Speaking with Carlson, Gaetz added, “I haven’t gotten an answer [to the letter]. But it begs the question, why are we so friendly with Mexico? They’ve cooked up more death in the Mexican mountains than any crazy, mad scientist in Wuhan would have thought of. It’s hard to tell where the Cartels end and the government of Mexico begins.”

Gaetz then noted how high-level Mexican officials have been involved with the ruthless drug cartels. And Canada, he added, is not much better.
“I don’t want my constituents living under socialist tyrannical lockdowns enacted by [Prime Minister] Justin Trudeau ‘Castro’ while their nephews are being poisoned by Mexican fentanyl,” said Gaetz.
“But that apparently is the globalist order that the Biden administration supports here as they give away our money and our chance of a brighter future overseas.”
