Maj. Gen. Christopher Donahue

Report: Army Commander Abandoned Afghan Allies To The Tender Mercies Of The Taliban So He Could Cart Home An Enemy Truck

On Aug. 31, the official Twitter account of the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division tweeted a photo of its commander, Maj. Gen. Christopher Donahue.

The image, taken with the aid of night-vision equipment, shows Donahue boarding a C-17 at the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Donahue, the tweet said, “is the final American #Paratrooper to depart Afghanistan.”

In an exclusive posted on Sunday, the conservative website RedState reported what the tweet did not show.

“During the last hours of the evacuation, according to troops under his command and as documented by photographs and witness statements, Donahue ordered all of the passengers aboard a C-17 transport plane to disembark so he could have a souvenir loaded onto the plane,” RedState reported.

“That souvenir, or ‘war trophy,’ was an inoperable Taliban-owned Toyota Hilux with a fully operational Russian ZU-23 anti-aircraft autocannon mounted in the bed.”

According to RedState, it’s unclear how many people momentarily exited the plane to make room for the truck. Yet troops at the scene told the website that “at least 50 people and perhaps as many as 100 people were left at Kabul to make room for the Hilux.”

Who were these people?

RedState notes that soldiers reported they were Afghan civilians who had worked for American troops, or furnished them with intelligence.

Moreover, as with the “kill lists” the Biden administration provided to the “businesslike” and “pragmatic” Taliban butchers, RedState, citing multiple sources within the military and the intelligence community, said Donahue provided the new rulers of Afghanistan “a full manifest of passengers aboard the flights including passport information, photos, and biometric information for those passengers.”

An anonymous military intelligence source told RedState: “The 50 were bonafide personnel that should have been evacuated. They will likely never be heard from again. The Taliban was given literally everything that would prevent any of those people from hiding or escape and evasion, and we know that there are a lot of ‘disappearings’ going on.”

RedState said it was provided transcripts of two videos taken of soldiers who were tasked with loading the truck onto the aircraft. They were not happy, and debated whether the general could legally seize a “war trophy.”

“For Donahue to leave more than 50 evacuees behind to bring the Hilux to Fort Bragg doesn’t make sense,” RedState observed.

“It makes even less sense to use the vehicle as a ‘museum piece’ to commemorate a major failure.”

But in Donahue’s defense, nothing about what the Biden administration did in the last month of America’s time there made sense.

  1. FOIA Requests on war trophies is not classified, since they have to be declared by the rules of war. It can only be taken by a unit, not an individual. Also, cannot be taken if loss of life will occur, essentially 51 counts of war crimes.

  2. Maybe the Motor Pool can get the thing running for use in support of the upcoming Operation Biden Fury where PTA members who opened their mouths at a School Board meeting will be hunted down and thrown in solitary. (That is, if there’s time to spare from the primary mission of confiscating firearms from law-abiding citizens…)

  3. So glad I’m retired from the new woke Army. As a former member of the 82nd, I’m ashamed by this and worse by our Flag officers, and yet Marine LTC Stuart Scheller got put in the stockade and is getting courtmartialed for wanting accountability for the clusterfuk in Afghanistan !!!!!!!
