Cancel Culture USA

Report: Cancel Culture Got Its Way, Or Nearly Did, Almost 250 Times In 2021

Liberals always want it both ways.

First, they claim Cancel Culture is a mirage in the conservative mind. Then, they move to squelch and destroy things that represent or stand up for ideals they oppose.

The conservative site The College Fix, though, reported recently that Cancel Culture is all too real.

The website noted that it chronicled nearly 250 occasions when things were canceled or almost canceled for representing, naming, or signifying the wrong things – at least as the left sees it.

The Fix said 135 of those incidents were actually successful, while another 106 were attempted cancellations.

“Over the last 12 months the genre that saw the most cancelations (sic) was building names, with 40 such examples,” The Fix reported. “The names represent former U.S. presidents, governors, judges, Declaration of Independence signers, scientists, and other pioneers from U.S. history. The most common thread among the names stripped from buildings was some relation to slavery or racism.”

That list included historic figures such as President John Tyler, Sen. Stephen Douglas, Supreme Court Justice John Marshall, founding father Charles Carroll, and the Swedish scientist Carl Linnaeus.

The next largest group of cancellations included 31 professors. Among them was a New York law school dean who, The Fix reported, “canceled herself after using the term ‘slaveholder’ in a meeting.” In other examples, a Georgetown University law professor was fired for saying black student performance is “lower” than whites and a University of Miami law professor who was dumped for his pro-Donald Trump tweets.

Speaking of Trump, the former president as well as his confidante Rudy Giuliani and Sen. Ted Cruz all had honorary degrees revoked last year.

One university denied “Back the Blue” T-shirts, while a “cop-supporting” coffee shop owner was “bullied” off Boise State University. In another example, Immigration and Customs Enforcement withdrew from a job fair after activists complained.

The Fix noted that it launched its database of cancellations in 2013, before Cancel Culture gained its current momentum. Since then, the website has documented more than 1,400 occasions of people, groups, or things being canceled.

“Cancel culture continues to grow and shows no sign of stopping. It represents an illiberal assault against freedom of speech and association as well as faith, academic discourse, open inquiry, the arts, unpopular or controversial ideas, and much more,” The Fix observed, adding new entries for 2022 will be entered as they occur.
