RIVERVIEW, Fla. – A Riverview bicyclist was killed Sunday morning after being struck by a car in Gibsonton.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 25-year-old Gibsonton man was driving a Dodge Charger southbound on US-41 when a 31-year-old bicyclist from Riverview attempted to cross the highway at the intersection of Park Grove Road.

The bicyclist entered the path of the car, and despite the driver’s attempts to avoid a collision, the car struck the bicyclist. The car then veered off the road, hitting a traffic sign and a tree.

The driver of the car sustained minor injuries. Tragically, the bicyclist suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
