RIVERVIEW: A Bloomingdale area protest was being planned for tonight. Expect delays around major intersections. The planned protest will take place at Bloomingdale and US 301, not far from the protest from last night.

Last night Big Bend Road at US 301 was shut down in all directions to allow for the protest and march. The protest was peaceful and without incident.

Commissioner Sandy Murman and Sheriff Chad Chronister were on site at the protest last night.

Chronister said, “I couldn’t be more grateful that they remained peaceful We wanted to give them enough room, we wanted to keep them safe. Were they agitated? Yes. Were they upset and angry? Yes. We’re angry, we’re upset, so I could imagine how they feel. I think as long as we continue to give them an avenue of expression and keep them safe, I’m confident that our Tampa Bay community, is gonna remain peaceful.”

The Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce said in an email today, “Most protestors are peaceful and law-abiding citizens who just want their voices to be heard, with a few agitators who are the cause for concern.”

We will update this story with any changes.
