TAMPA, Fla. – A two-alarm fire ripped through a Tampa apartment building Sunday morning, drawing a massive response from emergency crews who managed to swallow the flames in under half an hour.
The Hillsborough County Emergency Dispatch Center began receiving a flood of 911 calls at roughly 9:35 a.m. reporting a structure fire at 2705 Quinton Drive.
The first crews to arrive on the scene were met with heavy fire and thick smoke pouring straight through the roof of the two-story apartment building. Firefighters immediately launched an aggressive attack on the flames.
Because the fire was so intense and spreading quickly, commanders called in a second alarm to pull more personnel and equipment to the scene.
While teams worked to contain the blaze, other crews rushed into the burning building to conduct primary searches of multiple apartment units, ensuring everyone had gotten out safely. No residents were found inside during the search.
Crews brought the fire under control in about 25 minutes after the first truck arrived on the scene. Paramedics transported one civilian to a local hospital in stable condition for further evaluation. No firefighters were injured while fighting the fire.
The American Red Cross was called in to assist the families who were displaced by the damage. At this time, the Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Fire Investigations Unit is still on the scene, working to determine exactly what started the fire.
