The latest must-have Nike release wasn’t found in a box, but strewn across a rooftop, after an elaborate overnight robbery at the Treasure Coast Mall.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is currently hunting for what they’re calling “sky-high sneaker thieves” after a well-planned heist at the Champs Sporting Goods store.
Not quite the Crown Jewels—but it’s clear these thieves put the same time and effort into their crime.
In a brazen operation reminiscent of a Hollywood caper, the culprits reportedly accessed the mall’s roof, then meticulously cut their way down through the concrete ceiling, dropping right into the Champs store. Once inside, they didn’t just grab a few pairs; they stole hundreds of pairs of Nike shoes.
The stolen merchandise was carefully bagged and tagged before being tossed off the roof to waiting accomplices and loaded into a getaway vehicle. While the scheme was executed with impressive precision, some of the footwear was hastily left behind in the escape.
MCSO’s Criminal Investigations Division is actively working this case, and they are now turning to the public for help. Detectives are urging anyone who noticed anything suspicious in or around the mall between midnight and 8 a.m. Tuesday morning to come forward.
If you have any information, please contact MCSO at 772-220-7060 or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273-TIPS (8477).
