Speaking at the memorial service for Charlie Kirk in Arizona, Secretary of State Marco Rubio offered a deeply personal reflection on Kirk’s life and legacy.

Rubio recounted his initial skepticism about Kirk’s mission to engage young people on college campuses, a mission he described as trying to “convince Young Americans that ours is the greatest country in the history of the world and that Marxism was bad.”

Rubio quipped, “Why don’t you start somewhere easier? Like, for example, communist Cuba?” However, he said his doubts were “proven wrong” as he witnessed Kirk’s organization spark a “renaissance” among young people who had been taught that “America is a source of evil, not of good in the world.”

The Secretary of State praised Kirk’s intellectual prowess and described him as having an “unbelievable” amount of knowledge, recalling a recent conversation where Kirk quoted the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius.

More than just knowledge, Rubio said, Kirk possessed an “uncanny amount of wisdom for a man as young as he was,” noting that he had accumulated in 31 years what “sometimes it takes a lifetime to accumulate.”

Rubio also lauded Kirk’s boldness, emphasizing his willingness to engage with those who disagreed with him, even on opposing media platforms. He shared an anecdote about a CNN host who recently received an invitation from Kirk to engage in dialogue, stating that “Charlie Kirk did that more than anyone alive in America today is doing.”

In his closing remarks, Rubio said Kirk’s greatest impact was on young men in America, encouraging them to live productive lives, “get married, start a family, love your country.” He concluded by sharing his personal faith, expressing a belief that he and others would have a “great reunion there again with Charlie and all the people we love” in a new Heaven and a new Earth.
