Russia has launched a “massive attack” targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, top Ukrainian officials confirmed early Friday, leaving parts of the capital Kyiv without power and water.

The strikes, described by officials as widespread, have particularly impacted the capital. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that the entire left bank of the city is currently without electricity. The power supply across the capital remains unstable following the overnight assault.

Klitschko also confirmed that at least eight people were injured in the attack.

Infrastructure Hit Hard

The sustained nature of the assault on vital infrastructure is raising serious concerns. Ukraine’s Energy Minister Svitlana Grynchuk issued a statement on X assuring the public that utility workers are “taking all necessary measures to minimize the negative consequences” of the strikes.

The attack marks a significant escalation in Russia’s campaign against Ukraine’s energy grid, which official reports indicate began to intensify in late September. This renewed focus on energy infrastructure appears to be part of a strategic effort to cripple key services as the country prepares for the upcoming colder months.

Authorities are urging citizens to remain patient as emergency crews work to stabilize the power grid and restore essential services across the affected areas.
