The Detroit Lions severed ties with cornerback Terrion Arnold on Monday, cutting the former first-round draft pick just days after his arrest in Florida for allegedly orchestrating a brutal kidnapping and armed robbery.
The team announced the roster move on the X social media platform the exact same day a Florida judge set Arnold’s bail at $1 million. The sudden release strips Arnold of the final two years of his four-year, $14.3 million rookie contract.
While the Lions did not provide an official reason for the release, Arnold is facing severe felony charges in Hillsborough County.
Tampa Police investigators have identified the 23-year-old athlete as the primary conspirator behind a violent February ambush involving three young men in their late teens. Prosecutors revealed that one of those victims actually worked as a personal driver for Arnold. According to court documents, Arnold wrongly suspected the men of stealing luxury goods and $100,000 in cash from him.
The entire incident stems from a dispute at an Airbnb in Largo, Florida, where Arnold periodically stayed alongside a circle of friends. On February 3, Arnold and several associates reported a property loss to the Largo Police Department that totaled more than $250,000.
Believing they knew who took the items, Arnold and an associate, Boakai Hilton Jr., allegedly put a retaliatory plan into motion. Tampa Police investigators later determined that the suspected victims had absolutely no involvement in the initial theft.
According to police reports, Arnold and Hilton coordinated with two women, Arianna Del Valle and Jasmine Randazzo, directing them to contact one of the victims and lure him to an apartment on the 14-thousand block of N. 46th St. in Tampa. While the victims were en route around midnight on February 4, two other men, Christion Williams and Lyndell Hudson II, hid inside a bedroom closet waiting to strike.
When the three young men arrived and entered the bedroom, Williams and Hudson jumped out. The suspects held the victims at gunpoint, beat them, and pistol-whipped them.
As the assault was actively taking place, investigators found that Del Valle was livestreaming the video feed directly to Arnold, Hilton, and another co-defendant, Freddie Hughes, who were all traveling together toward the apartment. Detectives also uncovered a group chat containing all seven defendants. In that chat, Arnold and Hilton reportedly sent out real-time directions to the attackers inside the room while the victims were being battered.
About an hour into the assault, Arnold, Hilton, and Hughes arrived at the scene. Witnesses told police that Arnold directed the men to go inside the residence. While the violence continued, Hughes, Hudson, and Williams ransacked the victims’ pockets and stole their personal property.
The ordeal finally ended around 1:40 a.m. The three injured victims were escorted out of the building by the armed suspects, forced into their own vehicle, and ordered to leave immediately. Del Valle and Williams then piled into a getaway car driven by Arnold and fled the area.
The bloodied victims immediately drove to the Tampa Police Department to report the incident and positively identified their attackers. Following a thorough investigation and the execution of search warrants, detectives tracked down and arrested the other six co-defendants between February 4 and March 21, hitting them with multiple counts of armed robbery, kidnapping, and aggravated battery.
Arnold eventually turned himself in at the Orient Road Jail in Hillsborough County last Wednesday night. He currently faces four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery, and he remains in custody following Monday’s bail ruling.
