POLK COUNTY, Fla. — A 20-year-old Sanford man is in custody after a witness spotted him attempting to break into a parked school bus late Wednesday night, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched to Lake Marion Creek Middle School in Poinciana at approximately 10:22 p.m. on August 12 following a report of suspicious activity on campus. A witness told dispatchers they saw a man trying to gain entry into one of the school buses parked on the property.
Deputies arrived shortly after and located the suspect. When questioned about his presence on school grounds, the man refused to speak with law enforcement or provide his name, prompting deputies to detain him. He was subsequently identified as Luis Daniel Rosa.
According to the sheriff’s office, Rosa made explicit death threats against a deputy while being placed into the back of a patrol vehicle.
Rosa was transported to the Sheriff’s Processing Center, where he was booked on five separate charges: attempted burglary of a conveyance, threatening a public servant, resisting an officer without violence, loitering or prowling, and trespassing on school grounds.
Agency records indicate Rosa has a prior criminal history, with past offenses including residential burglary, dealing in stolen property, possession of burglary tools, grand theft, grand theft of a motor vehicle, battery on a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault, battery on a person over 65, simple battery, violation of probation, and prior school trespass incidents.
