VENICE, Fla. — Traffic is moving again in Venice. The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that all lanes of South Tamiami Trail are now open to traffic.
The roadway had been shut down earlier Saturday evening near Sunset Beach Boulevard due to a vehicle crash. First responders from the Sheriff’s Office, Sarasota County Fire Department, and Florida Highway Patrol spent time on the scene investigating the incident and clearing debris.
Authorities have indicated the scene is now clear, and normal traffic patterns have resumed.
ORIGINAL REPORT: Drivers in Venice are facing major delays this Saturday evening following a vehicle crash that has completely closed the northbound lanes of South Tamiami Trail.
Emergency crews, including the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, Sarasota County Fire Department, and the Florida Highway Patrol, are currently on the scene near Sunset Beach Boulevard. The call came in around 6:55 p.m., bringing traffic to a standstill while first responders work to secure the area.

Authorities have confirmed that Northbound Tamiami Trail will remain closed for the foreseeable future. Investigators are currently assessing the crash site, and crews are working to clear the roadway of debris.
Officials are urging motorists to avoid the area entirely and find alternative routes to avoid getting stuck in the backup. There is currently no estimated time for when the lanes will reopen.
