SARASOTA, Fla. – Sarasota County authorities have reopened all southbound lanes of North Lockwood Ridge Road at Gocio Road following a fatal collision between a vehicle and a bicycle early Monday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:00 AM on Monday, prompting an immediate response from local emergency services. Deputies from the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene to assist the Florida Highway Patrol with the investigation and traffic control.
Due to the severity of the crash, officials were forced to close the southbound side of North Lockwood Ridge Road for several hours. The Sheriff’s Office initially advised the public that the area would be “shut down for a prolonged period of time until the investigation is concluded.”

The Florida Highway Patrol is leading the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
No information regarding the identities of the driver or the cyclist has been released at this time. As of Monday morning, the scene has been cleared and the roadway is once again fully open for commuters.
