SARASOTA, Fla. – A Sarasota County Correction Facility inmate has been charged with murder after killing a fellow inmate on Sunday.
Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Section (CIS), along with the 12th district Medical Examiner’s office, is investigating the death of an inmate at the Sarasota County Correctional Facility on Sunday morning.
Investigators say that Zachary K. Ellis, an inmate, will be charged with 2nd-degree Murder as a result of the initial investigation.

The victim’s identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification and Marsy’s Law.
The suspect was being held on an unrelated domestic violence charge.
